Debut At 62! Never Too Late To Get In Shape

It's never too late to get in shape

Fit After 50 / January 27, 2020

It’s never too late to get in shape! My mom is living proof! ( Just look at this teeny bikini moment!)

My mom and I started CKDM out of a desire to help women of all ages reach their fitness goals, but especially women over 50.

it’s never too late to get in shape

We’re not suggesting that everyone become a bodybuilder, but my mom decided to take control of her health + fitness at the age of 59, and competing in a bodybuilding competition was a BIG goal for her.

She won 2nd place in the 40-and-over category. She was nearly 20 years older than most of her competitors!

Muscle and Fitness Magazine even did a feature on her that documented what led her to make drastic health changes in her life and how she wants her fitness journey to inspire other women:

“She got her start on an exercise bike in her living room and lifting light weights. While she was earning her doctorate she decided to take her training up a notch. Since she got her start in fitness, she has lost 40 pounds and 12 inches off her waist. Now, she wants other women to realize that age is just a number, and that strength training can benefit anyone.”

its never too late to change your habits

Because my mom formed ingrained habits that put her health and wellness first, she is no longer insecure, tired, and stressed. She’s admittedly better able to handle the stress that life brings simply because she feels so much better.

This is what she told Muscle and Fitness about the specific changes she made during her weight loss transformation:

“‘I overhauled my exercise regimen and my diet. Key strategies for my success included:

  • Increasing my protein to four ounces every three hours.
  • Keeping my carbs around 75 grams daily (not counting workout carbs).
  • Drinking more water, recording all of my food (including nibbles, licks and bites).
  • Weighing, measuring and prepping food.'”

“She also attributes her success to addressing emotional challenges with the help of a life coach—something she says many people fail to do, inhibiting their overall progress.”

it’s never to late To Change Your Emotional Health

This truth is something we are truly passionate about, because when you take charge of your physical health, your emotional health is affected positively, too. And, when you feel better in your body AND your mind, you’re more present and engaged with the important people in your life, which also has a positive effect on your emotions!

If this isn’t motivation enough to finally take charge of your health and wellness, read the full Muscle and Fitness article here.

I also interviewed my mom about her weight loss transformation story, and you can see that here.

Just remember: It’s never too late to get in shape!
