Gain a little weight over the holidays? Or maybe in 2020?
If you’re thinking about shedding some pounds in 2021, you’re not alone.
But before you get started, it’s important to debunk some common exercise and weight loss myths.
Weight loss myth #1: You can easily lose weight solely by exercising.
FACT: Unfortunately, you can’t out-exercise an unhealthy eating plan or diet. You can spend the day exercising but if you’re chowing down on junk food all day long (maybe because of stress) that’s not going to work.
Weight loss myth #2: Steady cardio is effective for weight loss.
FACT: You can do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) for 20 minutes and burn just as many calories as steady cardio for 45 minutes. It’s far more efficient.
Weight loss myth #3: Eating less and moving more is effective for weight loss.
FACT: Each one of us is our own science experiment. This one’s tricky because the concept is too simplistic. As you eat less, your metabolism slows. As you exercise, your metabolism can slow so much that it plateaus. To avoid a weight loss plateau, you need to analyze your macros – your protein, fat, and carbohydrate ratios – and most of us need help figuring this out.
